Between 18 and 22 May 2026, the Greek capital of Athens will host the conference "Will it wilt? From bark to xylem an invasion away". This will be the first meeting of two Working Parties within the International Union of Forest Research (IUFRO): "Vascular Wilt Diseases" and “Pine Wilt Disease”. As such, it is set to be an "opportunity to exchange experiences, results and perspectives for future research topics" among experts specialising in these adverse plant conditions.

More specifically, the conference will incorporate joint sessions addressing the following topics:

  • identification and taxonomy
  • host-pathogen interactions
  • epidemiology
  • bark beetle symbiosis / vector biology
  • breeding
  • disease management and control
  • chemical ecology
  • genomes and bioinformatics
  • population biology
  • pathways of invasion
  • risk assessment and surveillance
  • new methods of bio surveillance
  • influence of climate change on vascular pathogens and vectors

The full programme, terms for registration and further practicalities can be accessed on the official event website. The deadline for submitting abstracts for oral presentations or posters has been extended to 31 January and is possible via this page.
